Snow Load Calculator

Calculate the snow load on your roof based on location, roof type, and other factors. Our tool combines data from multiple sources for accurate results.

About This Calculator

Our snow load calculator uses location-based data combined with engineering formulas to estimate the snow load on your roof. It accounts for roof type, exposure, thermal factors, and building importance to provide comprehensive results.

The calculator uses the following formula based on ASCE 7 standards:

Roof Snow Load = Ground Snow Load × Exposure Factor × Thermal Factor × Importance Factor × Roof Slope Factor

Additional adjustments are made for drifting and unbalanced snow loads where applicable.

Safety Considerations:

  • This calculator provides estimates only
  • Actual conditions may vary based on local factors
  • For critical structures, consult a licensed engineer
  • Regular roof inspections are recommended in snowy climates

What is ground snow load?

Ground snow load is the weight of snow on the ground, measured in pounds per square foot (psf). It’s used as the basis for calculating roof snow loads.

How accurate is the location data?

We use data from NOAA and ASCE 7 snow load maps. For precise calculations, consult local building codes or a structural engineer.

What roof slope requires the most adjustment?

Flat roofs (≤5° slope) retain the most snow, while steep roofs (>45° slope) shed snow more easily.
