Understanding Contact Force
Contact force arises when objects are in physical contact. According to Newton’s Third Law, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. When you push one object (Mass 1) into another (Mass 2), Mass 1 exerts a force on Mass 2, and Mass 2 exerts an equal and opposite force back on Mass 1. This calculator determines the force exerted by Mass 1 on Mass 2.
The calculation also considers friction, which is the force resisting motion between surfaces. A higher coefficient of friction leads to a greater frictional force, which reduces the overall acceleration of the system and, consequently, the contact force.
